Our vision is an educated public in pursuit of a secure financial future. Here's why it matters to our communities, and what we're doing to help enhance math education and financial literacy.

1. Actuaries and are needed anywhere risk is present.

The future is uncertain and full of risk. Actuaries are experts in reducing the impact of undesirable events that occur, and even seeing that risk as an opportunity. Actuaries provide the analytic backbone to financial security programs, from insurance, private companies to the government. Actuaries do their jobs, so our communities can go about without worrying about what the future may hold. That's why we care about supporting the next generation of actuaries.

2. We enhance lives through our and financial literacy programs.

The Foundation's resources give people valuable knowledge and insight to empower them to make more informed decisions. Our free curriculum resources— Expect the Unexpected with Math—give teachers and students new reasons to be excited and confident about mathematics and include hands-on projects, lesson plans and online activities. Our Modeling the Future Challenge provides high school students a glimpse into math modeling and the actuarial process. Our Building Your Future financial literacy program teaches students the ins and outs of managing their money. And The Hardest Math Problem Student Contest challenges middle school students to solve real-world problems.

3. Education and where we give back.

The Foundation encourages mathematical thinkers by offering free math tutoring to students in grades 3-12 through Math Motivators. This program is volunteer-driven and pairs underserved students with professionals and college students with strong mathematics backgrounds. During the 2021-2022 school year, 543 tutors volunteered 11,187 hours of their time to help students succeed.

Our new Money Mentors financial literacy tutoring program empowers high schoolers to make conscious choices about their resources, time and energy.

4. Funding through helps advance the actuarial field.

The Actuarial Foundation promotes the actuarial profession and cultivates the next generation of actuaries through its scholarship programs, supporting the best and brightest as they enter the actuarial field. In 2021, we awarded a total of $239,000 worth of scholarship funds to 83 college students. The STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program is our newest offering with the goal of increasing diversity in the actuarial profession.
