What impact did TAF have on you?
This program gave me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth in the local communities! I appreciate what TAF is doing in lagging math literacy among many families in our target underserved communities is one of the impediments to breaking out of a cycle of poverty.
What program did you participate in and why?
I volunteer with the Math Motivators program after school and summer tutoring sessions. After school and summer tutoring sessions are great times to support learning continuity and to help the children enhance and sharpen their skills during the periods they are not with their teachers.
What’s your best experience/memory from being a part of a TAF program?
My best experience as a volunteer with Math Motivators has been bonding with my students. A favorite memory with one student in particular was their excitement to share their new pet with me! I realized during our daily check-ins, we had developed a close bond where she was eager to update me with new exciting experiences in her life. I had connected to her as an individual even though we were communicating in a virtual environment. The personal relationship I foster with my students enables me to encourage them and to increase their personal commitment to their learning. Our bond motivates their diligent work to keep up the progress!
