Valerie Thompson

I am honored to serve as The Actuarial Foundation’s Executive Director. With 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience, I will work together with the Board of Trustees and staff to ensure we continue to engage the actuarial community in providing award-winning programs that ignite a passion for math. 

I joined the Foundation in 2020 as Director of Development providing strategic fundraising vision to support our programs. In 2023, I became the Senior Director of Advancement, overseeing the Foundation’s philanthropic, communication, and outreach activities. Later that year, I was named Interim Executive Director and guided the organization through changes in senior leadership, strategic direction, staffing, and operations. 

Prior to joining the Foundation, I worked for a variety of Chicago-area nonprofit organizations including American Academy of Dermatology, American Brain Tumor Association, Emergency Fund for Needy People (now known as All Chicago), and Resources for Community Living. My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin. 

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.
