SCHAUMBURG, IL (March 29, 2024) – The Actuarial Foundation will celebrate 30 successful years of unleashing the power of math education during the organization’s Formula 2024 Virtual Gala, May 9, 2024. The event theme – Empowering Students through Math Education – embodies the Foundation’s three decades of commitment to transforming the lives of young people by leveraging the talents and resources of the actuarial community.

The free, virtual event will kick off on Thursday, May 9 as a 60-minute, live streaming event at 5:00 p.m. (CDT). The evening will include inspiring stories about the positive, societal impacts of the organization’s work in spreading the word about the value of math education and financial literacy. The highlight of the event will be a keynote address by Ellen Ochoa, former astronaut and past Director of the Johnson Space Center. Ochoa made history as the first Latine female astronaut to fly aboard the Space Shuttle.

“We are excited to have a keynote speaker whose outstanding personal achievements, made possible by her own commitment to STEM education, represent everything the Foundation stands for,” said Interim Executive Director Valerie Thompson. “For 30 years, our organization has been changing lives by empowering young people through math education, aligned with our deep commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion in the actuarial profession. Our vision is a bright future in which everyone, regardless of personal background and challenges, can reach the heights of achievement through math education and proficiency.”

Formula 2024 – Empowering Students through Math Education is made possible through the support of generous sponsors in the actuarial, insurance and financial services sectors, including 2024 Presenting Sponsor RGA (Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated).

“You don’t have to be a member of the actuarial profession to join us for this special, virtual event,” said Thompson. “We invite anyone interested in the importance of math education to join us for this unique, virtual gala event, May 9, 2024.”
